PNEUKLEUS MAY 2012

Written by Du Plessis JV Rensburg.

pneukleus may 2012You don't get to participate in a Gap Year like Pneukleus without having a seriously good time, the past five months we have been to, seen and experienced some wonderful things and places!
We stated the year with what we call a fusion camp in Plettenberg bay which is aimed at establishing relationships and family bonds in the group. During this camp we did some water sports which included skiing, tubing as well two wonderful excursions up the vygeboom  river. If we weren't on the water we were exploring the local attractions such as the knysna elephant park, bird sanctuary and many other arts and crafts attractions of which the highlight was the paragliding off the mountain near sedge field which challenged many students on their fear of heights.

PNEUMATIX ARTS TOUR

Written by Lukie de Beer.

arts tour aprilEvery year the Music and Performing Arts departments in Pneumatix set aside at least few weeks of touring throughout South Africa.

The first leg of our touring for 2012 started with a 21-hour journey to QuaQua in the town of Phuthathijaba. Joined by the BTh and Psychology students, 26 of us performed and ministered at a ‘deaf and blind’ school in the heart of a very big township on the border of Lesotho. More than 350 children (aged 3 to 26) come to this school to be educated – regardless of their ability (or lack thereof).

Early in September, to plant the trees, the Biodiversity and Wine Initiative (BWI) champion teamed up with Serve the City, a volunteer-driven, non-profit organisation dedicated to uplifting impoverished communities surrounding Stellenbosch, and Pneumatix South Africa, an academic and arts-education scheme that initiates youth leadership programmes.

IDOLS VENTURE

Written by Wikus du Rand.

idolsSo last month we had the great opportunity to perform live on the Idols stage with Cofield Mundi. From the offset this was destined to be a great experience!

The moment we arrived at the Mosaic Theatre we had technicians buzzing around us, “roadies” carting our gear around and choreographers directing us as to movement on-stage when performing. We rehearsed a couple times before the official live broadcast, with camera takes exactly as the evening would happen when broadcasting live.
