DRAMA AND THEATRE MAJOR
Theatrics is a course designed for those with a passion for directing and teaching drama. This major is internationally recognized coinciding with additional key “Drama Essentials” making it a very unique and detailed course, certainly only one of its kind here in South Africa.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Candidates with a grade 12 qualification will be invited for an audition and a structured interview with a panel. The physique ability will contribute 35%, movement quality 25%, and communication skills 45% towards the final admission score.
CAREER PROFILE
Prospective students should have an interest in and understanding of the performing arts. He or she should be able to produce creative work within stressful conditions and keep to a tight schedule. He or she should be able to work long hours and under pressure.

- Special Features like Accents, Stage and Stunt work, Creating characters, Back stage work and Theatre Practical
ELECTIVES
Students may choose to participate in any of the other classes free-of-charge, provided that their own personal schedule permits them to do so. This means that above and beyond the core, compulsory subjects that each major requires, a student is able to join in on any of the classes that take place on the general Rebirth schedule during their free time. This allows the student to carefully design and direct their individual course to achieve their most desired outcome. Please take note that only students who major in the particular subject will receive the necessary kit as part of their course fee (Anatomy, Make-up etc) If you choose to take one of these as an elective, an additional “kit fee” will be charged to your account.
LEVEL OF QUALIFICATION
This course is a 3 year course, 4th year by invitation only. Depending on the student’s own personal progress, he or she may obtain the following:
- Beginners- Advanced Certification: Stage Make-up and effects
- Grd 8- LTCL Musical Theatre/ Performance Arts International Teaching Certification (Trinity)
- Grd 8- LTCL International Teaching Certification Drama and Speech
- Beginners- Advanced: Vocals
DURATION OF COURSE
3 Years (Fourth Year by Invitation only)
COURSE EXCLUDES
All exam fees are excluded from the course outlay as they are entirely optional and rely solely on the performance of each individual student. Students who choose not to participate in exams eliminate themselves from qualifying with accredited certification.
POSSIBLE JOB OPPORTUNITIES
Performer/ Teacher in the entertainment industry, theatre, film and TV industry, advertising and promotion companies, education
EXPOSURE
Students will be challenged in various experience areas such as giving weekly teachings in the local community to auditions, on tour shows, agency recognition, and competitions. We encourage students to take part in as many opportunities that their schedule allows to get them industry ready and confident in what they love.
NB: Only an exclusive number of entrants are accepted each year, working in small groups. We appreciate that each student has different needs and, with a more personal approach, aim to teach each person as an individual.
